The List of the (probably not every) Day

It only seemed appropriate to follow up my last post with a list. And since I threw out a list topic as well without the corresponding list, here goes:

Top five great songs ruined by being used in a bad movie
(in no order)

"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" by U2 in Batman Forever
Even if you liked Carrey's Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones and Chris O'Donnell chewed enough scenery to overcome any positives.

"Golden Years" by David Bowie in A Knight's Tale
While a medieval dance set to a prog rock classic had a certain twisted appeal, this was a baaaad movie.

"Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence in Daredevil
I almost always enjoy Favreau, Garner and Duncan, but all their charms combined can't save this dog.

"Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo in Back to School
Despite being glad for Elfman and Boingo - they are actually in the movie - as a Rodney Dangerfield  vehicle all you need to know is that Burt Young is in it. Yo, Paulie.

"Mississippi Queen" by Mountain in The Expendables
This song also makes many one-hit-wonder lists but what a rocker. It rocks as hard as the movie didn't. I wonder what songs the sequel will ruin?

So maybe ruined is too strong a claim, but it hurts to see good songs used for evil.

  1. Love Back to School! "Bring us a pitcher of beer every seven minutes until somebody passes out. And then bring one every ten minutes."
    And it has Kurt Vonnegut!

  2. Other way - he wants the pitchers coming faster after someone passes out . . . Didn't say I didn't enjoy the movie, but it was a bad movie. And don't forget Sam Kinison.
